    Our natural and cold-saponified soap!

Our superfatted soap is natural and vegan. It’s 89% natural origin and 66% organic, and is suitable for hand and body use. It’s ideal for skin that is sensitive, dry or mature, and it’s also great use on oily skin.

The soap is handmade in Switzerland using artisan techniques, and is cold-saponified.
Cold saponification is an ecological and economical alternative to hot-saponified mass-produced soaps. Our gentler method means that the benefits of the oils, glycerine, essential oils and other natural substances are preserved, so that the soap retains its valuable healing, regenerating and nourishing properties.

You might notice some translucent lines/marks on the soap. These are commonly referred to as glycerine rivers, as the cold-saponified soap contains a lot of glycerine. Actually, those marks are unrelated to the glycerine – as the soap gels, the lye sorts the fatty acids that it is saponifying. Some fatty acids saponify faster than others, resulting in these little separations in the soap. Some very rich fatty substances have a tendency to do that, as do some coloured pigments. The quality of the soap is unchanged, and it is a sign of each soap being unique.

To make our artisan soap, we use organic poppy seeds that are enhanced at our organic garden at Le Valais. These seeds function as vegetable-based exfoliating agents, and create a contrast within the white waviness of the soap bar. They help to get rid of dead skin, and they also soften the skin and make it more luminous. The action of smoothing it onto the skin also stimulates the blood’s micro-circulation and cellular renewal.

We’ve added bamboo charcoal too, which has incredible adsorption capacities thanks to its very porous surface, meaning that it captures toxins and impurities on the skin. It is great for combatting pore obstruction and it also absorbs excess sebum as well as deep-cleaning the skin while preserving its hydrolipidic barrier. The oxygenating, illuminating and blending properties of this natural substance also makes it a perfect choice for use on tired, listless skin.

    FAQ

Superfatted soap is made using the same recipe as traditional soap, but is enriched with superfatting nutritive agents such as vegetable oils and vegetable butters. The superfatting agents mean that the soap cleans without drying while also hydrating and protecting the skin.

The cold-saponification process requires time and lots of manual intervention, so it isn’t really suited to mass production and tends to be the preserve of artisan soapmakers who prioritise quality over quantity. To really make the best artisan soap, it is vital that the right ingredients are chosen, and so we opted for organic-certified materials wherever possible, as well as natural colorants, thereby limiting the environmental impact of our soaps wherever possible.

Another benefit is that this gentle production method saves a lot of energy.

Cold-saponification means that the mix is given time to saponify, this being around 4 to 6 weeks. The slow method means that the ingredients’ properties are retained.

Of the ingredients in our exfoliating soap, 66% are organic and from our organic gardens, though it does not have the organic label.

Our exfoliating soap does more than just exfoliate. Unlike a basic soap scrub, it can be used every day (using foam not exfoliating grains) in the shower. It is great for cleaning and hydrating the skin, rather like a cleansing soap.

What’s more, your skin will just love our exfoliating soap for its organic and natural ingredients including coconut oil, olive oil, ricin oil, shea butter and cocoa butter.

Is your soap free of palm oil ?

The soap base we use is indeed free of palm oil! It contains 5 vegetable oils, and these are coconut oil, olive oil, ricin oil, shea butter and cocoa butter.
